There is much more information on the BecA website: http://hub.africabiosciences.org/

Can you say a bit about how (or how not) the BecA-run technology platforms you mention interact with the technology platforms of, say, Livestock and Fish?

Although the primary focus is still east and central Africa, BecA can also (selectively) support people and institutions in other parts of African but not beyond.

there are numerous elements through which the BecA-ILRI Hub has been actively participating in delivering on ILRI strategy. Sorry if this was not clear from a few minutes overview of the BecA-ILRI Hub
These areas are:
– Capacity building
– Acquisition of technologies to support biosciences research (including technologies that are traditionally only available at plant research institutions but with relevance to some aspects of livestock research,…)
– Research (within livestock and some themes that go beyond livestock)
– and more

good point
in addition to those pen side Dx tests that do not require the labs, we also have to ensure that some science can actually be done in African NARS labs otherwise in the long run the concept of research will be so foreign that its value might not even be appreciated. Please take a look at the Science Agenda for African Agriculture and pay particular attention to key message number 02
(S3A; http://faraafrica.org/programs/frameworks/science-agenda/)

Lucilla
The ABCF is not a student training opportunity. It can happen but the primary remit of the ABCF is to support NARS scientists to access the BecA-ILRI Hub and deliver on their research priorities that may or may not align with ours. Some of them as part of their interest to grow and/or staff development plan can be student.

yes that is right and this arrangement is proving hugely successful
so we can do more
